RUI BANDEIRA

TOURING JUNE 2024

We are thrilled to be welcoming former Eurovision Song Contest finalist Rui Bandeira to Australia in June 2024!

Rui Bandeira is a Portuguese superstar and former Eurovision Song Contest finalist who has released 14 studio albums, along with two live albums. With an infectious pop sound and plenty of toe-tapping disco-flavoured tunes to get grooving to, his Australian shows are not to be missed.

ABOUT RUI

Born in Mozambique and moving to Portugal at 2 years old, Rui took his first steps in music by learning to play keyboards at a music school in Odivelas at just shy of eight years old. Around 15, he joined the Maná Church and began to compose his first songs. In the following 10 years, until 1997, he released four albums, two with a band he founded and two solo.

Shortly after, he met Jorge do Carmo, with whom he began working on a new, more ambitious album. They send several songs to the RTP da Canção Festival.

In 1999, after winning the 36th Festival RTP da Canção with the theme How everything began, he represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem , Israel.

His first nationally known album was Como tudo began, which was released in March 1999 by Vidisco. That year he also represented Portugal, at the invitation of RTP, at the Cairo International Festival in Egypt, where he came in 4th place among 32 countries with his interpretation of “Make this World” by Jorge do Carmo and Tó Andrade.

The album Mais was released in 2000, with the first single "Mais (Eu Te Dou)" with lyrics by João Baião. In 2001, he released the album Magia do Amor, which includes a duet with Tiago.

In 2003 he participated in the television program Academia dos Famosos , on TVI, and released the compilation Momentos , with 5 new songs and 10 songs from his first works.

The album "Destino" was released in 2004. The album sold more than 10,000 units and Bandeira received a Silver Record award for the first time. This work includes a duet with Portuguese tenor Carlos Guilherme.

The year 2005 is marked by what would be the last album on the Vidisco label: Duas Vidas . In 2006 he switched to Espacial publishing and returned to work with Jorge do Carmo. The result was the album Só Deus Sabe.

Also in 2006 , the recording of his first DVD took place in the land where Rui Bandeira was born into music (Corroios, in Seixal), which would be released the following year. The Live DVD is based on songs from the album Só Deus Sabe and also includes three songs from other albums. Thus, in 2007, the album Ao Vivo was released.

In April 2009, the album O Nosso Amor (Rui Bandeira album) was released. From this album, the themes "God blessed our love", "I'm leaving but I'm going happy" and the ballads "Sei que vous não vai forget" and "Forget what happened" are considered stand out songs.

In 2010, the album "Um dia vais volta" was released. In 2011, he released the live album "Coliseu". In 2010, he released a double album with a DVD of the concert held at the Coliseu do Porto . In 2012, the album "Chegou a Hora" was released. The album "Always thinking about you" followed in 2013.
